Improper fitting is usually the cause of premature breakdown of upvc locks. Most home owners are having UPVC patio & front doors fitted and if the lock goes wrong they are being quoted for a new front door or even double patio doors. I was called to a faulty patio door by a single woman living on her own. I used the adjustment screw on the lock to make the lock work. Needless to say she was happy, only the day before she had been quoted £3600 for a whole replacement double sliding patio door. Not all repairs on UPVC are easy, windows fitted upside down will fill with water causing the hinges to buckle under the weight, UPVC doors with hinges incorrectly fitted will become structurally unsound if repeatedly forced into the frame to close them. However, natural wear and tear does happen and locks are replaceable with original genuine parts. Prices vary from around £40-£90 with a £45 fitting charge. Also, if your UPVC lock is fitted by someone the supplier does not know YOU LOSE YOUR WARRANTY.
